The Macro: Everyone Has Data, Almost Nobody Can Read It
Here’s the thing about spreadsheets. Most of the people actually making decisions inside companies are not data analysts. They’re founders, ops leads, sales managers, and PMs who inherited a 4,000-row CSV and are now expected to produce insights from it by Friday. That gap between raw data and actionable understanding is enormous, and it’s been enormous for years.
The numbers back this up across multiple research firms. The data analytics market was valued somewhere around $70-82 billion in 2024-2025 (sources vary slightly on the figure, but they all agree on the direction), with AI-specific data analytics projected to grow at a CAGR of roughly 29% through 2034, according to Precedence Research. That’s not a market that’s getting smaller.
So naturally, a lot of products are chasing it.
Quadratic lets you build spreadsheets with Python and SQL baked in. Alkemi wants to live inside your Slack and surface data insights conversationally. DashGPT is pitching the interactive dashboard angle. The list is genuinely long, which is both a validation signal and a warning sign. Everyone agrees the problem is real. The question is always which UI and which workflow actually sticks.
What’s interesting is that the competition isn’t really between these tools and each other. The real competitor for all of them is Excel, Google Sheets, and the learned helplessness that comes from years of formula-based thinking. Breaking that habit is harder than building a better charting library.
The teams that will win here are the ones that make the no-code experience feel complete, not like a toy that collapses the moment your data gets weird.
The Micro: What OrangeLabs Actually Does When You Upload Your Mess
OrangeLabs is built around a pretty direct premise. You connect your data, you ask a question in plain English, and the AI agent produces a chart, table, or written insight. No SQL. No Python. No Excel function lookup at 11pm.
The input layer is broader than I expected. You can upload spreadsheets and CSVs, analyze PDFs, or query a connected database directly. That last one matters more than it sounds. A lot of tools in this space stop at file uploads, which means your data has to be exported before you can use it. Database connectivity is what separates a demo tool from something that could actually live in a workflow.
On the output side, OrangeLabs covers the standard chart types: bar graphs, pie charts, and sunburst graphs for hierarchical data. There’s also a slide generation feature that converts your visuals into a presentation-ready deck, which is a smart addition. The last mile problem in data analysis isn’t the chart, it’s the deck you have to build afterward.
The “document intelligence” feature is worth paying attention to. The pitch is that you upload any document and the AI extracts, categorizes, and organizes the data automatically. If that works well on messy real-world documents (the kind with inconsistent formatting, merged cells, or scanned PDFs), that’s genuinely useful. If it only works on clean structured files, it’s fine but not differentiated.
The YC application tag in their topics is listed (the product is tagged under “YC Application”), which puts them in similar company to other technically ambitious data tools, like some of the teams covered in this piece on InsForge.
It got solid traction on its Product Hunt launch, which suggests there’s real appetite for what they’re building.

The Verdict
I think OrangeLabs is solving a real problem with a sensible surface area. The combination of PDF analysis, database connectivity, and slide generation in one tool is more coherent than it sounds, and “just ask in English” is the right UX bet for the non-technical users who are actually underserved here.
What I’d want to know at 30 days: how does it handle genuinely messy data? The clean demo is never the real test. Real spreadsheets have blank rows, inconsistent naming, and columns that were renamed three times. If the AI agent degrades gracefully on those, this is interesting. If it breaks and gives confident wrong answers, that’s a serious trust problem.
At 60 days: is anyone using it more than once? One-shot data questions are easy to get right. Repeat use requires the product to actually fit inside a workflow, not just impress on first try.
The market is crowded but the problem is genuinely unsolved for most teams. OrangeLabs looks like it has the right instincts. The execution details are what I’d be watching. I’d give it a real shot before writing it off as just another charting wrapper.
